About

Los Chamizal Vineyards are the estate vineyards of Haywood Wines.  Chamizal ~ a Spanish word which translates to “a thicket of hardwood”, closely describes the rugged valley, folded between the ridges of the Mayacamus Mountains, which Peter Haywood chose as the site for his vineyards and winery in 1974.  To plant his grapes the thicket had to be cleared and terraces carved into the hillside.  The vineyard was designed so each of the varietals grown would be planted in the most favorable location.“We know that the vineyard is the source of all wine quality.  In steep, rocky soil only the strong vines survive to produce fruit for the finest wines”
