FAQs

What are gourmet foods

Gourmet foods are those that are made with high-quality, fresh ingredients and that are often served in a luxurious setting.

Gourmet foods usually cost more than regular foods because of the care that goes into making them. Chefs who specialize in making gourmet dishes often spend many hours perfecting their recipes and sourcing the best ingredients.

Gourmet foods can be enjoyed anywhere, but they're most typically found in high-end restaurants or specialty food stores.

What are popular Mediterranean dishes?

Some popular Mediterranean dishes include hummus, falafel, tabbouleh, and dolma (stuffed grape leaves). These dishes are typically made with fresh ingredients and are healthy and flavorful. Mediterranean cuisine is often referred to as the "culinary bridge" between East and West, as it incorporates both Eastern and Western flavors and techniques. Dishes from this region are usually cooked in olive oil, with fresh herbs and spices lending them a unique flavor.

What is Falafel

Falafel is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas. It is popular in the Middle East and North Africa. Falafel is usually served as a snack, or as a component of a meze or an entrée.

The falafel balls are made of patties of soaked, ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both. Green onion, parsley, cilantro, garlic, and spices are also added to the mixture before shaping into balls or patties. They are then deep-fried in hot oil until golden brown.

Falafel can be eaten on its own as a snack, or with bread and tahini sauce.

What is the difference between meat and halal meat?

The word “halal” means permissible in Arabic, and refers to anything that is allowed under Islamic law. So, in terms of food, it refers to anything that is considered acceptable for Muslims to eat.

There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to determining what is halal and what isn’t. Firstly, all foods are considered halal unless there is evidence to the contrary. This means that, unless something is specifically listed as being haram (forbidden), it is automatically permissible.

Secondly, there are certain animal products which are automatically halal – such as eggs and Dairy products – as long as they come from animals that were themselves fed a halal diet.

What Is Kunafa And What Does It Taste Like?

Kunafa (kunafah, konafa, kunefe) is a Levantine dessert made of vermicelli-like pastry soaked in sugar syrup and cheese. It is also sometimes sprinkled with pistachios or walnuts.

Is zaatar bread healthy?

Zaatar flat bread is a type of Arabic flatbread that is made with zaatar, a blend of dried thyme, oregano, marjoram, and sesame seeds. How many calories in a lamb shawarma wrap?

The number of calories in a lamb shawarma wrap can vary depending on the ingredients used and the portion size. However, on average, a lamb shawarma wrap can contain around 600 to 800 calories.

This is because a shawarma wrap typically contains a good amount of calories from the lamb meat, which is high in protein and fat, as well as the pita bread, which is high in carbohydrates. Additionally, the toppings such as tahini sauce, hummus, and other traditional toppings can add more calories to the wrap. It's also worth noting that the method of cooking and the preparation of the meat can also affect the calorie content.

Is shawarma a chicken or mutton?

Shawarma is a popular Middle Eastern dish that is typically made with marinated, seasoned meat that is roasted on a vertical spit and shaved off in thin slices. While shawarma can be made with a variety of meats, including beef and lamb, the most commonly used meats are chicken and mutton (which is actually lamb in many countries). Chicken shawarma is usually made with boneless chicken thighs, which are marinated in a blend of spices and then roasted until tender and juicy. Mutton shawarma, on the other hand, is made with thin slices of lamb that are seasoned and cooked on the spit until crispy and flavorful. The pistachios provide a slightly salty and nutty flavor that perfectly complements the sweetness of the pastry. Overall, Turkish baklava has a rich and complex flavor that is both sweet and savory, making it a popular dessert all around the world.

What are the specialties of Turkish baklava?

Turkish baklava is a traditional dessert that is made from layers of phyllo pastry, nuts, and syrup. The specialty of Turkish baklava lies in its delicate layers of crispy phyllo pastry and the unique flavor of the nut filling, which is typically made from pistachios or walnuts.

One of the distinguishing features of Turkish baklava is its use of clarified butter, which is brushed generously between the layers of pastry to create a rich buttery flavor. The nut filling is also typically ground finely to create a smooth texture and is flavored with a hint of cinnamon or cardamom for added complexity.

Another specialty of Turkish baklava is its syrup, which is made from a combination of sugar, water, and lemon juice. The syrup is poured over the hot baklava, which absorbs it to create a sweet and sticky texture that contrasts with the crispness of the pastry.

Finally, Turkish baklava is often cut into diamond-shaped pieces and served with a sprinkling of ground pistachios or walnuts on top, adding to its visual appeal. It is a beloved dessert in Turkish cuisine and is often served on special occasions and holidays.

Totally happy today with my trip to Aladdin Gourmet - ran in to get some haloumi on my way to BevMo - they had everything I needed and more that I didn't, including frozen Kunafe - the man at the register was very nice - I mentioned that my favorite Kunafe man moved to Ohio - to which he replied, "We make Kunafe here!" oh my goodness I was so excited. He shouted in Arabic to the man in the deli area to give me a piece - IT WAS DELICIOUS! I have my new Kunafe place! I was so sad when the last guy moved to Ohio and now I have my prayers answered - FRESH KUNAFE and still within a mile of my home! Next time I will get some of their fresh food on display - it looked and smelled delicious in there. Can't wait to visit them again! Meanwhile, I will eat my frozen Kunafe they carried, and will visit Aladdin again soon for my fresh Kunafe fix!

We ordered a variety of kabobs, including Kubideh, chicken, and vegetables. The food was excellent, although we had to wait an extra 20 minutes (35-40 minutes in total) for it to get ready. Hopefully this is not a typical occurrence so I gave 5/5 for now.
