Knight Marine Service was established in 1967. Horatio Knight, founder of the company, along with his wife Alice had a vision for the old coal yard and sought to bring the first Marina/Boatyard to the Midcoast area. He purchased the first Marine Travelift in 1968 and began hauling and storing boats for the winter. Knight Marine Service also started out as a boat building operation with Horatio building his own “working tugboat” in 1971. The business continued to grow and he added a full service dock in 1977, that included a chandlery and gas and diesel pumps.
