Aires Jewelers.The year was 1932 when John W. Arends began his jewelry apprenticeship with Jabel Manufacturing, a large jewelry manufacturing company in Irvington NJ. Over the next 11 years, he mastered the art of jewelry design and manufacturing, including model making, casting, setting, and polishing. Upon returning from WWII military service, John W. Arends made the decision to go into business for himself. In 1946, Aires Jewelers was born, and began operating as a wholesale jewelry manufacturing company in Newark NJ.By 1977, it was time to expand. John’s son and current owner, Ronald W. Arends, moved the business to a warehouse in Whippany NJ. At this point Aires Jewelers was still a wholesale manufacturer… the place that other retail jewelers would send their repair and special order work out to be completed. Slowly, by way of word-of-mouth, family and friends would request to work directly with Ronald to have pieces made that they could not have done anywhere else. It was clear that a great demand existed for a traditional retail jewelry store that could have the in-house capability of a wholesale jewelry manufacturer.Seizing that opportunity, in 1989 Ronald moved Aires Jewelers to Morris Plains NJ, and opened our “retail” doors for the first time. His sons Ronald J. and Christopher J. Arends have since joined their father and represent the third generation of family jewelry designers and manufacturers.
