About

The Lawrence Jewish Community Congregation (LJCC) was founded in 1954 by a small group of Jewish families living in the Lawrence area. Prior to 1954 there had been no place of worship for Jews, and today the LJCC is still the area’s only full-service congregation. It is both a synagogue and a center for Jewish life in Lawrence. The LJCC provides weekly Friday night Shabbat services and full High Holiday and festival services. Services are in Hebrew and English, with much community singing. The LJCC is unaffiliated and alternates use of Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist prayer books. Services are led by Rabbi Moti Rieber and community members. The LJCC offers religious school instruction for children preschool through confirmation, family education and interfaith outreach activities. There is a gift shop, social action and cultural events, the Lawrence Jewish Learning Center for adult education classes and family education events, guest speakers, a variety of programs and the annual Blintz Brunch the first Sunday in November. The LJCC also owns the B’nai Israel Cemetery in Eudora, Kan.
