First Christian Church. Since its origin in the early 1800s as an American frontier movement, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has attempted to increase respect and understanding among Christian believers of all denominations. Our movement strives for a Christian faith which is both socially relevant to the era in which we live and intellectually sound -- while attempting to hold true to the teachings of Jesus and the practices of the New Testament Churches.
