Kirstens Danish Bakery.In 1989 upon moving to the Chicago area from Los Angeles, Kirsten wanted to do something to keep her growing family in touch with the rich Danish heritage she had grown up with. It was then that Kirsten began thinking of opening her own Danish bakery. Kirsten, not a baker by trade, knew good bakery from her many trips to Denmark and from her uncle who owned and operated a bakery in Odense, Denmark began looking into ways to bring those same rich flavors and textures to Burr Ridge, Illinois.After placing ads in Danish newspapers, Kirsten traveled to Denmark and returned with an experienced Danish baker to start her new business. A second Danish baker joined Kirsten’s over ten years ago and produces many popular bakery products, including our delicious cakes and Award Winning Kringles.Kirsten’s Danish Bakery is recommended by various Scandinavian organizations as having some of the finest authentic Danish bakery products in the country. Kirsten’s has also evolved into one of the best full-line bakeries in Illinois with a customer base throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. Kirsten’s Danish Bakery is also known for delicious cakes and superior cake decorating. Chris Andrews, a cake decorator at Kirsten’s, placed first overall in the 2008 Chicago Area Retail Bakers Association (CARBA) Annual Cake Decorating Contest. That same year at the RBA Nationals, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Chris  took first place in the Sculptured Cake category and qualified to compete in Las Vegas.  Kirsten takes great pride in everything she does, most importantly her baking.
