About
Al Maynard, our founder, was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and after the war returned to the United States and began working as a salesman in a furniture store. In 1947 he opened Maynard Furniture Company in Belton, South Carolina.Over the next decade, the company continued to grow and Al built new showrooms and warehouses to accommodate the popularity of his family run furniture business.By 1960, he had opened an antique store in the popular tourist town of Highlands, North Carolina, and his main business in Belton was expanding.
