In a play on words, that is how Papa Roni’s co-founder, Dan Urbancic, likes to define Papa-Roni’s 1-Price Pizza concept. Along with partner, Bob Wilson, the two food service veterans decided to try to fix what they saw wrong from the consumer side of the pizza business. “With a young son at home, it seems we always have a house full of hungry young teens and pizza is always a popular choice to feed all of them”, says Wilson.. “But it seemed that whenever we went to order pizza, we always got frustrated trying to find a good deal. All the major chains and even the regional pizza shops constantly bombard us with coupons and specials – but who keeps track of them all? Most times when we searched for the elusive coupon, we found we had expired ones, or the deals we had were for sizes or a combination that we didn’t want. With all deals flying around out there, it could not only be foolish, but terribly expensive to buy pizza if you don’t happen to have a coupon in hand. One thing we knew is that all those places offering discounts and coupons usually require higher ‘everyday menu prices’ to make up for all that discounting they do.
